H1B Registration

As the H1B visa continues to be a popular route for employing highly skilled international workers in the United States, employers must understand the intricacies of the H1B registration process. The registration window for 2024 runs from March 6 through March 22, 2024, and preparation is critical to ensuring a successful application. Here’s an outline of the crucial information and steps employers must follow.

1. Registration Fee

For each employee you wish to register for the H1B lottery, there’s a $10 non-refundable registration fee.

2. Employer Information Collection

Before you begin the registration process, gather the following details about your company:

  • Legal Name: The official registered name of the petitioning company.
  • DBA Names: Any ‘Doing Business As’ names, if applicable.
  • Employer Identification Number (EIN): The unique number assigned to your business for tax purposes.
  • Primary Office Address: The central location of your company in the U.S.
  • Authorized Signatory Details: The legal name, title, and contact information (phone number and email) of the person authorized to complete and sign the H1B registration.

3. Certification by Authorized Signatory

The individual completing the registration must certify that all information is accurate and that the company intends to file an H-1B petition for the employee if selected in the lottery. This step underscores the importance of accuracy and legitimacy in the process.

4. Registration Limitations and Rules

It’s important to note that while there is no cap on the number of employees an employer can register, each registered employee must have a legitimate job opportunity with the petitioning company. Furthermore, employers are prohibited from submitting more than one registration per employee. If multiple registrations are submitted for the same individual, USCIS will reject all registrations for that employee.

5. Selection and Notification

Once the registration period closes, USCIS randomly selects 85,000 registrants from the pool. If your employee is selected, you will be notified to proceed with filing a complete H-1B visa petition.

Conclusion

Preparing for H1B registration requires attention to detail and adherence to USCIS guidelines. Remember to register candidates with genuine job opportunities and avoid duplicate registrations for the same individual. With careful planning and organization, employers can successfully navigate the H1B registration process, opening doors to global talent and contributing to a diverse, skilled workforce.
