TN Visa Status as Orthotists and Prosthetists

The profession of an Orthotist or Prosthetist is not listed under the USMCA(NAFTA) professions list as a profession that qualifies for TN visa status. However, it is listed as a similar occupation to an Occupational Therapist and a Physical Therapist. What is an Orthotist or Prosthetist for TN Visa purposes?

According to the US Department of Labor (DOL), Orthotists and prosthetists design and fabricate medical supportive devices and measure and fit patients for them. These devices include artificial limbs (arms, hands, legs, and feet), braces, and other medical or surgical devices.

Although they may work with Occupational Therapists and Physical Therapists, these are separate and distinct professions. While an Occupation Therapist or Physical Therapist are listed as professions that qualify for TN Visa status, Orthotists or Prosthetists are not.
