Following the FY 2024 H1B visa lottery, USCIS completed its first selection round and notified applicants by March 27, 2023. If your status shifted from “Submitted” to “Selected,” congratulations! However, if it’s still “Submitted,” we provide insight into subsequent steps and potential alternative visa options.
Knowing Your FY 2024 H1B Visa Lottery Selection Status
By March 31, 2022, USCIS sent out notifications for the FY 2024 H1B lottery. If chosen, your employer will see a status change from “Submitted” to “Selected” in their USCIS account. In the “Action” tab, your employer can find and download the H-1B Lottery selection notice to initiate the H-1B petition process.
Next Steps if Not Selected for FY 2024 H1B Visa Lottery
If your status is still “Submitted,” don’t lose hope yet! You may not have been selected in the initial lottery round, but USCIS often holds additional selections, known as the “H-1B Reserve Registration,” based on the number of unfiled H-1B Petitions by the June 30 deadline.
When Does H-1B Reserve Registration Take Place?
Depending on the volume of unfiled H-1B Petitions from the March lottery round, USCIS typically conducts the H-1B Reserve Registration in July, notifying additional selectees by the end of August.
