Citizenship

In the world of U.S. immigration law, remarkable journeys often unfold. One such story is of our client who transitioned from a Canadian visitor to a U.S. citizen in just four years, an achievement emblematic of the successful collaboration between a dedicated legal team and a determined individual.

Initial Entry and Marriage

Our client, a Canadian citizen, took advantage of the visa-exempt status for Canadians visiting the U.S., similar to the Visa Waiver Program (VWP). In 2018, she entered the U.S. and soon after married her U.S. citizen spouse.

Green Card Through Marriage

The couple approached us for assistance with the green card application. We filed USCIS Form I-130, Petition for Alien Relative, and USCIS Form I-485, Adjustment of Status, on their behalf. Given that their marriage was less than two years old at the time of approval, she initially received a conditional, 2-year green card.

Removing Conditional Status

As required by U.S. immigration law, before the expiration of the conditional green card, we filed USCIS Form I-751, Petition to Remove Conditions on Residence. The approval of this petition marked a significant milestone, transitioning our client to a permanent 10-year green card holder.

Naturalization: The Final Step

Meeting the three-year residency requirement as the spouse of a U.S. citizen, our client was ready for the next step – U.S. citizenship. We filed USCIS Form N-400, Application for Naturalization, and after a successful interview, she achieved her dream of becoming a U.S. citizen.

Dual Citizenship and Client Experience

Our client’s journey culminated in dual Canadian and U.S. citizenship, a testament to her dedication and our team’s commitment to guiding her through each stage of the process. Her feedback underscores the importance of professional, empathetic legal support in navigating the complexities of U.S. immigration law.

My husband and I were very fortunate to have had Christine and her team guide us through our immigration process. Christine had wonderful soft skills – always remaining professional, transparent, organized, and sympathetic. She did a wonderful job of framing the stages of our process when confusion or worries set in. To have a knowledgeable and experienced lawyer handling our paperwork, speaking to USCIS on our behalf, and answering questions/concerns along the way was invaluable. We are so grateful to have spent nearly 5 years, from our first inquiry to my Oath of Allegiance, being guided by Richard & Jurusik US Immigration Law.
