USCIS has a backlog of 3.8 Million Cases

On December 28, 2021, DHS OIG released a report stating that continued reliance on manual processing slowed USCIS’s benefits delivery during the COVID-19 pandemic. DHS OIG found a backlog of 3.8 million cases as of May 2021, due to limited processing capability, and technology performance issues. The report includes recommendations to improve benefit processing times.
