USA to Lift COVID Mandate at Canada Border on May 11, 2023

On May 1, 2023, Congressman Brian Higgins confirmed that on May 11, 2023, the United States will lift the COVID-19 vaccine requirement for Canadians traveling to the United States at land ports.

This is welcome news for Canadians traveling to the United States who have been under COVID-19-related travel restrictions when entering the United States since the pandemic began in 2020. This applies to all Canadians entering the United States as visitors or for business and includes those traveling on E visas, TN Visas, etc. Confirmation of the COVID vaccine will no longer be required beginning on May 11, 2023.

Can I commute from Canada or Mexico to the USA on a green card?

One of the conditions to maintain lawful US permanent resident status (LPR or Green Card holders) is to maintain and have permanent residence in the United States.  In general, a green card holder who moves outside the United States making another country their permanent residence abandons their green card. However, there are exceptions for US permanent residents who commute to the United States for employment from Canada or Mexico.
