The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has extended Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Venezuela, Ukraine, and Sudan. These extensions ensure eligible beneficiaries can maintain their status and continue to work legally in the U.S. Here’s what you need to know.


1. Venezuela TPS Extension: April 3, 2025 – October 2, 2026

  • Who Qualifies: Beneficiaries under the March 9, 2021, or October 3, 2023, Venezuela TPS designations.
  • Re-Registration Period: January 17, 2025 – September 10, 2025.
  • Pending Applications: Individuals with pending Form I-821 (TPS application) or Form I-765 (work permit application) as of January 17, 2025, do not need to reapply. If approved, their TPS and Employment Authorization Document (EAD) will be valid through October 2, 2026.

2. Ukraine TPS Extension: April 20, 2025 – October 19, 2026

  • Who Qualifies: Current beneficiaries under the Ukraine TPS designation.
  • Re-Registration Period: Eligible applicants must re-register during the 60-day period (dates to be announced).
  • Pending Applications: Individuals with pending Form I-821 or Form I-765 as of January 17, 2025, do not need to reapply. If approved, TPS and EAD validity will extend through October 19, 2026.

3. Sudan TPS Extension: April 20, 2025 – October 19, 2026

  • Who Qualifies: Current beneficiaries under the Sudan TPS designation.
  • Re-Registration Period: January 17, 2025 – March 18, 2025.
  • Pending Applications: Pending Form I-821 or Form I-765 applications filed before January 17, 2025, do not require reapplication. Approved applicants will receive TPS and EAD, valid through October 19, 2026.
