USCIS Update – 2024 H-1B Visa Cap Lottery Opens on March 1, 2023

On January 27, 2023, USCIS announced that the initial registration period for the 2024 H-1B Visa cap will open at noon Eastern on March 1 and run through 5 pm Eastern on March 20, 2023. During this period, prospective petitioners and representatives can complete and submit their registrations using the USCIS online H-1B registration system.

Once you are granted  H1B status through the lottery, it is not always necessary to re-enter the H1B lottery to accept new employment. As an employer, how do we submit an H1B Cap Registration for 2024?

Suppose your employee has not already been issued an H1B visa in a previous lottery, and you are not an H1B Cap Exempt employer. In that case, you need to enter the H1B visa lottery for each employee you wish to employ under the H1B Visa status. After your employee is selected in the lottery, you can file an I-129 Petition for employment under H1B visa status on their behalf.
