Richards and Jurusik Immigration Law seeks a motivated and detail-oriented Summer Associate to join our Buffalo-based team for the 2025 summer term. This position offers a unique opportunity for a current law student to gain hands-on experience in the U.S. and Canadian immigration law while working alongside experienced attorneys in a collaborative, client-focused environment. The ideal candidate is a 1L or 2L with a demonstrated interest in immigration law, strong legal skills, research and writing skills, and a commitment to providing high-quality legal services to individuals, families, and businesses.
Key Responsibilities
As a Summer Associate, you will assist our attorneys with a variety of immigration-related
matters, including but not limited to:
- Legal Research and Writing
- Conduct legal research on U.S. and Canadian immigration statutes, regulations, and
case law.
- Draft legal memoranda, client advisories, and case summaries under attorney
supervision.
Application Preparation and Case Support
- Assist in preparing and reviewing visa applications and supporting documents for both
business and family-based immigration matters, including TN, L-1, H-1B, and B-1/B-2
visas.
- Support the preparation of naturalization applications, adjustment of status filings, and
consular processing cases.
- Help compile and organize evidence for petitions and applications, including affidavits,
translations, and supporting documentation.
Client Interaction
- Participate in client interviews and consultations alongside supervising attorneys.
- Maintain case files and contribute to drafting client correspondence and case status updates.
Special Projects
- Collaborate on firm-wide initiatives such as blog writing, client alerts, and updates on
immigration policy developments.
- Support attorneys with strategic analysis of cross-border issues involving
NAFTA/USMCA provisions.
Qualifications
- Current law student (1L or 2L) at an accredited U.S. law school.
- Strong interest in immigration law and cross-border legal issues.
- Excellent legal research, analytical, and writing skills.
- Professional communication and interpersonal skills.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple assignments.
- Proficiency in Google Docs; experience with immigration case management software
is a plus.
