Richards and Jurusik LLP is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Associate Attorney to join our dedicated immigration practice, with a primary focus on Removal Defense and Complex Immigration Matters. The ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation in U.S. immigration law, specifically in removal and deportation proceedings, and a client-focused approach to legal advocacy. This role is ideal for a professional who thrives in a collaborative legal environment and is passionate about defending the rights of individuals facing removal.
Key Responsibilities:
Removal and Deportation Defense:

Represent clients in removal proceedings before the Immigration Court and the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA).

Prepare legal briefs, motions, and other filings, including cancellation of removal, asylum, withholding of removal, CAT claims, and waivers of inadmissibility.

Attend master calendar and individual hearings, ensuring thorough preparation and strategic defense.
Family and Humanitarian Immigration Matters:

Prepare and file I-130, I-485, I-601A, I-601, I-212, I-918 (U visas), VAWA petitions, and asylum applications.

Provide legal guidance and support for adjustment of status, consular processing, and special immigrant juvenile status (SIJS) cases.
Legal Research and Writing:

Draft legal arguments, motions to reopen/reconsider, appeals, and supporting documentation in removal defense cases.

Stay abreast of evolving immigration policies and regulations, particularly related to removal and humanitarian relief.
Client Communication and Case Management:

Maintain open and empathetic communication with clients facing high-stakes immigration situations.

Manage a diverse caseload with accuracy, timeliness, and high attention to detail.
Qualifications:

Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.

Active bar license in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction (New York preferred).

1–3 years of experience practicing immigration law with a focus on removal defense preferred.

Demonstrated experience handling EOIR matters, client hearings, and preparing complex case filings.

Fluency in Spanish or other second language is strongly preferred.

Strong research, writing, and oral advocacy skills.
